For over two years now I have had a vision of creating a mug that resembles my Japanese heritage. The Cherry blossom is the perfect way to symbolize our culture, cherry blossom season is sacred in Japanese culture because it …“advocates the beauty of impermanence. A friendly moment with his neighbour at the table, a child’s laughter under the flowering trees, or petals flying away in the sandstone of the wind, the contemplation of sakura is an event that takes place once a year for a short period, and the idea is to savor every moment before it disappears. Just like the cherry blossoms themselves, birth and death in the blink of an eye… It is a time for reflection, appreciation of beauty, and impermanence.” (Ph. L., 2019).
The Cherry blossom mugs are available for preorder, once your order is placed it will take approximately 2 weeks to create to order for you before shipping or local pickup.
How the Cherry blossom mug is created:
The shape of the mug is created using a custom made two part mold in a hydraulic press. I first create a mold for the shape of the mug that I would like using a 3D printer, after the model is created I use this to create a two part plaster mold. once the mold is ready to be used I press the shape of the mug and then trim and attach a hand formed handle. The next step is to allow the piece to fully dry before bisque firing it. After the piece has been bisque fired it is sanded and hand painted. Because each piece is handmade and hand painted each one is unique ♥️
Capacity: holds approximately 18oz
This mug is microwave and dishwasher safe. For longevity I recommend hand washing.
